Neurosis,
a term derived from German "neurose"
Designs in this collection demonstrate psychological tensions created during the process of dealing with intrinsic psychological conflicts or external stresses.
Many aesthetic elements were used from German expressionists' artwork. The artworks, especially the woodcuts express feelings such as stress, tension, and anxiety in relation to World War I. Colors and design elements, particularly the rough cutouts of the engravings of the German expressionists' artwork were used throughout the collection.
A major focus in the development was the various textural elements that I incorporated primarily through the use of a variety of fabrications, which can remind of the feelings derived from neurosis. The textures are often sharp, rough, and prickly.
I wanted the viewer to be able to actually 'feel' the collection, to enhance the tangible through the textural.
